How to run with the Year of the Fire Horse

Happy Hump Day {{first_name | Toaster}} 🐪 ,
Yesterday marked the Lunar New Year, which means we’ve officially stepped into the Year of the Horse. If you’re celebrating alongside the Chinese Community, here’s how you can use this energy to your advantage.
We’re leaving behind the Year of the Snake. In the Chinese zodiac, the snake is known to be intuitive, strategic, and deeply transformative. Snake years are about shedding - old identities, roles, patterns, relationships, etc.
We’re entering not only the Year of the Horse, but also a fire year (the last Fire Horse year was in 1966). Chinese zodiac combinations run on a 60 year cycle, so this specific energy only shows up once every six decades.
So what are we supposed to actually do with this energy?
The Horse represents high voltage strength, independence, and momentum. Fire adds intensity, brilliance, passion, and transformation. Together, they create fast-paced, action-oriented vibration that pushes for decisive moves. At its best, it fuels bold progress and fast momentum. At its worst, it can spiral into urgency, overreaction, and emotional whiplash.
Chinese New Year lasts 15 days. Traditionally, this period is about entering the year gently and letting the energy settle before you make big, irreversible moves. For the next two weeks, move with intention. Choose inputs that energize you, not ones that spiral you. Bring steadiness to your home and protect your nervous system.
This is a year of action, not reckless speed. Brilliance and drive can also tip into burnout if left unchecked. Intense momentum without boundaries becomes chaos, and constant acceleration without recovery becomes exhaustion. Women are already carrying more invisible labour at work and at home. A “go harder” narrative without guardrails will mean depletion.
How to run with the horses at work this year:
Move: Apply for the role, start the certification, pitch the idea, or launch the side project you have been quietly drafting.
Ask: Say the number out loud. Ask for help and outsource what you can’t do. Negotiate everything that is negotiable.
Sustain: Build momentum in focused moves rather than constant motion. Schedule rest as part of the plan.
Engage: Don’t run alone, find a community that steadies you when the pace picks up. You can access our community of women in tech here (PSA: we now have a free plan, or you can try the upgraded monthly plan free for 14 days).
Let the Year of the Fire Horse be your year to run before everything feels perfect and begin what has long been held back.
