Sometimes you need to close the laptop, stop reading the headlines, and ask the universe what the hell you’re doing with your life.

This week, we’re taking a break from the doom and gloom of tech and the patriarchy to talk about something considerably less consequential: what’s happening in the sky.

Are we experts on astrology? No. Are we still interested in what happens when millions of people collectively decide that a particular day is a good time to think about what they want? Absolutely.

We’re not claiming the planets are controlling your life. We’re simply taking advantage of a few cosmic milestones as an excuse to pause, reflect, and maybe make our lives a little more whimsy. August is apparently giving us plenty of reasons to do exactly that.

Lion’s Gate Portal (July 18-August 12)

The Lion’s Gate Portal is the spiritual community’s annual excuse to get intentional about new beginnings, abundance, confidence, and manifestation. It peaked around August 8, when the Sun was in Leo and Sirius appeared aligned with the Sun.

Today is the last day of Lion’s Gate, but if you forget to manifest, you're still allowed to want things tomorrow. Lucky for you, the universe doesn’t have an expiry policy.

Total solar eclipse in Leo (August 12)

The first total solar eclipse in Leo since 2008. Eclipses are traditionally associated with disruption, endings and new beginnings, while Leo is all about confidence, visibility, creativity, and ego. This one is about taking a hard look at where you're playing small or where you're performing for other people.

Mercury enters Virgo (August 25)

Virgo energy is associated with organization, routines, details, and getting your sh*t together. Basically, the cosmic equivalent of opening a fresh spreadsheet or convincing yourself this is the week you're finally going to become a morning person. It’s the time to pick one thing you've been putting off and actually deal with it.

Lunar eclipse in Pisces (August 28)

Closing out a cycle around surrender, ambition, and letting go. Lunar eclipses are traditionally associated with culmination and release, so this is less “go make it happen” and more “what are you finally ready to stop carrying?” It’s a particularly good time to think about what you're chasing because you genuinely want it, and what you're chasing because you think you should.

Jupiter forms a trine with Saturn (August 31)

A much more grounded combination of expansion and discipline. In other words: dream big, but maybe also make a plan. Take one thing you've been dreaming about and turn it into an actual next step.

So, what does any of this actually mean? Honestly, whatever you want it to mean.

Perhaps that's the part of astrology that gets overlooked. You don't have to believe the universe is sending you a sign to use a sign. Sometimes we just need an excuse to stop moving long enough to ask ourselves what we're actually moving toward.
